Successful completion of the PlastOmics Workshop

The PlastOmics Project successfully organized and completed the workshop “Bioinformatics Tools for the Analysis of Proteomic Data”.

The event was promoted through the website of the School of Chemical Engineering at NTUA and our academic network, attracting 61 registered participants from diverse academic backgrounds. Of these, 35% were researchers, 30% undergraduate students and 28% master’s/graduate students. Participants were affiliated with institutions such as National Technical University of Athens, the Agricultural University of Athens, the University of Patras, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Delft University of Technology.

The workshop was held in a hybrid format, with sessions conducted on-site at the Computer Laboratory of the School of Chemical Engineering at NTUA and online via Webex. Among the registrants, 43% opted for in-person attendance, while 57% joined remotely. Ultimately, 17 participants attended on-site and 29 participated online.

The workshop began with a presentation by Dr. Efstratios Nikolaivits (Associate Researcher), who introduced the PlastOmics Project and its research significance, including the wet-lab methodology used to generate omics data. The main session was conducted by Mr. Romanos Siaperas (Assistant Researcher), covering proteomic analysis using mass spectrometry, hands-on data processing with FragPipe and Perseus and a case study in which participants actively engaged.

Spanning five hours, the workshop fostered dynamic discussions between participants and organizers, highlighting the growing interest in bioinformatics tools for proteomic data analysis.

We thank all attendees for their participation and look forward to future collaborations!
